MYFOXCHATTANOOGA - Carly Flynn Morgan joins the FOX61 news team from Macon, Georgia. She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and knew she wanted to pursue journalism after anchoring the televised morning announcements at her high school.
Carly graduated with honors from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast News. She anchored WVU's news show that aired state-wide and also received the Best Beat Reporter award of 2007.
One week after graduating, Carly moved to Macon, Georgia to begin her broadcast career. She was hired as a reporter/video journalist at 13WMAZ and was promoted to weekend anchor/reporter after one year. She covered many memorable stories in Georgia, including the struggles of a meth-addicted couple with four young children, an update on one of the last surviving Munchkins from the Wizard of Oz, and the devastation after tornados ripped through Central Georgia on Mother's Day of 2008. She contributed to the coverage that earned 13WMAZ an Edward R. Murrow award.
Carly has also won several awards from the Associated Press. She received honorable mention for General Reporting in 2009, for a story exposing a diploma mill that gave a GED to a cat. Her work on a series called “Crime in the City,” also won 13WMAZ an AP award.
Carly's excited to continue her career in Chattanooga. When she's not working, she enjoys taking care of her pug-mix named Macon, keeping in touch with family and friends in Pittsburgh, cheering for the Steelers, reading memoirs and practicing the guitar.
