Chinese Supermarket Opens Dating Service

(MYFOX NATIONAL) -- If you live in China this Valentines Day and are single, you might want to look for love at the supermarket.

A supermarket opened up in Beijing called “I’m Looking For You” as a safe and friendly location for the Chinese single population to meet one another according to a Reuters report.

The market is run like a dating service with singles signing up for a membership fee of $3. They then fill out a form with their name, age, income and occupation, as well as a picture. They are also asked what they would like in a partner and other members can view their profile.

For single Chinese men, the concept of the market is ideal.

As of the late 1970’s, Chinese couples have only been allowed one child reports the BBC , and in the year 2020 there is a high probability that close to 30 million men will be unable to find a wife because of the preference for male children in China.

This gives single Chinese women the ability to be selective.

The “I’m Looking For You” market isn’t exactly a new concept. A report on the web site dateexpectations.co.uk  describes some supermarkets in Paris, France as deeming Thursday night singles night.

Singles are given a purple shopping basket with a picture of a couple kissing on it. If the single is successful that night in meeting someone, they are given a complementary photograph and glass of champagne.

Reuters reports that Gao Shan, the Chinese supermarkets manager, said that with the strong work ethic and drive to succeed in the competitive lifestyle of China, Chinese singles say that there is no time to meet people.

Wang Jiaohong who is a client signed up with encouragement from his mother.

“My ideal woman would be someone who I can get along with, who is kind-hearted, and who is responsible. My mother says that the reason why I haven't found her yet is because I'm too picky,” Wang said.
