Crazy Weather Sparks Gas Explosion

Posted: Updated:
Chattanooga -

It was certainly a wild Tuesday morning - weather wise. Heavy hail fell just before noon as rains pounded the ground. Lightning broke through the sky and in an East Brainerd neighborhood it struck a natural gas line which sparked an explosion. A plume of fire more than 20 feet high kept firefighters and homeowners at bay on New England Drive. The bolt of lightning hit a tree and followed a path along the roots to the underground utilities. Workers say a water line was blown open too.
