Radioactive Waste Issues Are Heating Up

Posted: Updated:

President Barack Obama will soon get the final report from his Blue Ribbon Commission. It's expected to give recommendations about what to do with the growing stockpile of radioactive waste. At nuclear plants like Sequoyah, waste is stored in pools and huge casks outside. Years ago, the Department of Energy promised it would take nuclear waste and bury it inside a repository in Yucca Mountain, Nevada. But political pressure and environmental concerns kept that from happening. Environmental watch dog groups are skeptical of the upcoming report.
